liz oertle

After spending years working as an attorney at a prestigious New York law firm and then at one of Denver's largest regional law firms, specializing in capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions and corporate governance, Liz found that her passion as a lawyer was in helping small businesses and startups. Hailing from a family of entrepreneurs and small business owners, she has a talent for seeing not only the technical legal side of things but also the situation on the ground, enabling her to translate esoteric legal concepts into plain English for her clients.

Liz's passion for business law ultimately lead her to conclude that a business lawyer can and should operate her practice as a business, providing excellent service on terms that make sense for attorney and client alike. She sees the legal services industry as ripe for "disruptive" ideas -- which, ironically, are frequently the very same ideas that are taken as conventional wisdom in the rest of the business world.

Liz has represented companies in a variety of industries and a variety of stages of development, from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 public companies. As managing member of Oertle Law, LLC, Liz employs that experience in the service of small and emerging companies. She specializes in corporate financing transactions, technology transactions, commercial contracts, and corporate governance. She was named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine in 2017.

Liz founded the Independent Law Group as a way to bring clients the benefits of a large law firm without the unnecessary overhead, by leveraging

a group of talented lawyers with big firm experience who have chosen to pursue solo or small-firm practices.

Before attending law school, Liz worked in the book publishing industry as a copy editor, proofreader, and managing editorial assistant.

Liz is admitted to practice in Colorado and New York and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Denver Bar Association. She is on the Executive Committee of the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation and volunteers as a tutor at University Prep, a Denver public charter school.
