pricing and fee structure

We believe the arcane fee paradigm employed by conventional law firms is inconsistent with our role as your trusted advisor. A relationship of trust and respect cannot exist when each month brings an unpleasant surprise in the form of an invoice that does not match expectations.  We are constantly working to craft fee structures that fit the unique needs of our clients. Below are a few of the structures we employ, but we are always open to discussing new alternative business arrangements if a novel idea would work best for a specific circumstance.

Standard Hourly Billing

Our hourly rates are extremely competitive when compared with the regional and national law firms from which our attorneys have migrated, due in large part to the fact that our business model involves minimal overhead. More importantly, we stand by our fee estimates. We will not exceed an estimate without first consulting with you and explaining the reason for the need for additional time and expense.

Outside General Counsel

For companies that have a continuing, predictable need for legal guidance and an attorney that will take ownership over the legal side of the business, we offer a flat monthly or annual fee, based on a mutually agreed estimate of the level of legal guidance needed and how much time, on average, will be required.

Project-Based Flat Fee

We are happy to negotiate flat fee arrangements for short-term or long-term projects, either independently or in conjunction with an outside general counsel arrangement.

Alternative Fee Structures

We understand that in many cases, our clients need our assistance with financing transactions in order to get to a positive cash flow position. One of the benefits of our business model is that we can work with you to come up with a fee structure that works for your situation. We are open to a variety of alternative fee structures, including fee deferral, success fees, and taking a portion of our fee as equity.

Out-of-Pocket Expenses

While we do pass through out-of-pocket expenses such as filing fees, shipping expenses, etc., we do not charge fees for things like ordinary postage, scanning, copying, or legal research tools.
